The lives of 15 team members who work at The Village at Gainesville senior living community were transformed this upcoming school year. More than $31,000 was awarded to the associates. The money was raised by residents, families and friends.

The team members received their scholarships on Friday, August 6. Several of the team members recorded messages for those who donated to the cause.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated to the scholarship fund to allow for associates like me to have this great opportunity to overcome financial struggles during our academic journey,” said recipient Alejandra Diaz Hernandez. The Tower Club dining server is a chemical engineering student at the University of Florida, with aspirations of working for OSHA. “I would just like to thank everyone for allowing me to be a part of The Village and also helping me achieve my academic goals.”

This is the fifth year the scholarships have been awarded. Over that time, more than $108,000 has been donated to the Foundation fund by residents, friends and families. To date, 48 team members have received scholarships.

“I want to thank the residents, associates and committee members who contributed to the scholarship fund,” said nursing student Isabel Bohlman-Downey. “I am very grateful for this opportunity.”

Thanks to generous donors, this year’s scholarships were the largest to date. The Village at Gainesville offers independent living, assisted living and memory support. The community has been a proud part of Alachua County for more than three decades and has consistently promoted its mission of enriching the lives of older adults through its Vitality Program. These scholarship donations continue to be a great way for residents to give back to those who care for them, especially over the course of the last year.
