The Village at Gainesville recently donated a truckload of used appliances from its residences to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank to be provided to needy families. The appliances included refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, washers and dryers.
Bread of the Mighty partners with over 180 nonprofits — including food pantries, churches and homeless shelters — to provide communities with food, essentials and appliances.
The partnership between the two entities began in 2015, when The Village was looking for something to do with appliances pegged for replacement. Joshua[MOU2] Fuller, Facilities Manager at The Village, served as a volunteer board member for Bread of the Mighty, so he has confidence the donation will benefit people in need.
“A core belief of The Village at Gainesville is every day is an opportunity to serve,” said Fuller. “As a part of the larger Gainesville community, we view it as our responsibility to give back and to help those in need.”
Bread of the Mighty will put the appliances in the hands of those in need through a partner agency.
“We recently gave a stove and refrigerator to a family with several children,” said Loretta Griffis, Bread of the Mighty Director of Community Outreach. “They had previously been using a hotplate and cooler for their food. The mother said that was the first time in over a year the family had a fully cooked meal. This generous contribution by The Village will benefit families like this.”
