To maximize the vitality of all our residents, we created the Vitality Program. Introduced exclusively on our campus in early 2012, this program was part of our larger effort to take a proactive approach to residents’ health and wellness.
Our Vitality nurses meet one-on-one with all participating residents to learn about their overall health and potential needs. From there, these nurses develop a wellness plan to help residents stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

We’ve partnered with the university to help us design a new living environment, called Enhanced Independent Living.
Students and professors come to The Village to conduct resident focus groups and research. The students’ goal is to learn what this group of adults want and need from their living environment, and design that environment for them; our goal is to implement those designs at The Village.
Our relationship with North Florida Regional Medical Center led to the opening of the Senior Healthcare Center at The Village, the only Center of its kind on a retirement community campus.
The Center serves as the hub for all support services offered, including daily check-ins to ensure safety, emergency response system, 24-hour on-call emergency medical support, private-duty home care, and rehabilitation programs with licensed therapists.
We introduced our new community bus in 2012. This state-of-the-art bus lowers to the ground, so there are no steps to navigate. Instead of a lift, the bus has a wide drawbridge ramp, which offers easier navigation onto the bus for people in wheelchairs and scooters. The bus is more comfortable inside, too. Riders enjoy theater-style seats and larger windows for better views.
Under an exclusive new partnership with Santa Fe College, residents of The Village can enjoy unlimited access to college courses, along with lectures and a variety of arts and sporting events on the college’s campus. And it’s all free.
In addition to tuition-free classes, residents have full access to lectures on a variety of subjects, as well as admittance and reserved seating to fine arts events, theatre, dance and musical performances at Santa Fe’s new Fine Arts Hall. They can also enjoy private showings and special tours of the college’s planetarium and teaching zoo.
Not every senior living community in and around Gainesville, Florida, can deliver all this. But we know of one that does – The Village at Gainesville.
